The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the MVT, which functions to preserve the UK's grassroots music venues.

He was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his third album the album was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the essential function grassroots venues played in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was just getting going," said Sam Fender. "These venues are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

Since the start of 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – about one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, top acts including Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its attempts to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket costs, which goes to help independent venues.

He also participated, collecting more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help 38 small stages across the UK.

The donation assisted spaces that were dealing with potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from water damage, blazes and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, court cases and sound issues.

Additional spaces received monetary aid in upgrading facilities and gear that directly benefitted musicians and audiences.

"The concept that money from shows in big venues supports the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has said.

He is among several artists to donate his award prize money to worthy causes.

In they won the prize in 1996 for their record the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the organization War Child.

During 2002, musician Ms Dynamite split her award among multiple good causes, such as the children's charity and a Sickle Cell organization.

"And I contributed a grand to the center, to their classes, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they needed updated gear," she shared with the media.

Previously, they gave their winnings to the youth organization that developed their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Also winners that year they contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was diagnosed the illness.

"The victory was quite enough," remarked artist Small. "The prize was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our success affected somebody else's life."

In the past week, the MVT announced it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by placing them under local control.

The Joiners in the city and The Croft in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by a national body and enthusiasts who purchase "ownership units" in the buildings.
